Lauren Gaspar, LCSW has treated victims of trauma and other life losses since 1999. She specializes in treating survivors of all ages that have been affected by sexual and physical abuse, those working through various forms of loss (divorce, expected and unexpected deaths, and stigmatized deaths), and those facing post-traumatic stress disorder, medical trauma, depression, and anxiety. She utilizes various forms of treatment with her clients, including Eye Movement Desentization and Reprocessing (EMDR), play therapy, sand tray therapy, and art therapy. She is a Registered Play Therapist, a board approved supervisor, and is certified in EMDR.
Lauren's experience has provided her with many opportunities to create healing for victims of severe trauma and loss. In December 2001 she was selected by the renowned Good Grief Program of Boston to begin child group therapy for children whose parents had died during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. From there she was hired full time as their 9/11 clinician, providing individual and group therapy for family members of victims. She co-facilitated groups for parent, spouses, siblings, and children of victims.
Lauren opened the doors to Good Mourning Counseling Center in 2006.She was an Adjunct Professor for the University of Texas in Austin Graduate School of Social Work from 2006 to 2015, where she taught Methods of Play Intervention,Treatment of Children and Adolescents, Grief Counseling, Group Therapy, and Social Work Practice with Abused and Neglected Children and Families. In 2013 she was asked to be a member of the Family Advocacy Outreach Network for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, supporting families of missing children and treating those who have been recovered.
Lauren holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Boston University and is recognized by the State of Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Board Approved Supervisor for LMSWs seeking LCSW licensure. She has been a member of the National Association of Social Workers since 2001 and is also a member of the Association for Play Therapy.
Lauren served as Board President of the Central Texas Chapter of the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention from 2012-2015, was conference chair of the Leben Play Therapy Symposium through the UT School of Social Work from 2012 through 2018, and served on the Board of the Austin/San Antonio chapter of Children's International Summer Villages (CISV) from 2015 through 2018.
